Categories: Male, Female, Transgender
Required Attire: All lifters must wear a singlet for squat, bench and deadlift. Under Armour and non-supportive neoprene are allowed!
Optional Attire: All lifters may wear wrist wraps, a belt and knee sleeves for any lift. The thumb loop may be left on the thumb. Unfortunately, we will not allow knee wraps.
Weight Progression: Lifters may increase lifts by a minimum of 0.5kg or 1.1 pounds. Now that is lifter friendly!
Record Attempts: Every meet is in kilograms so there will never be any confusion. Records can be set using a pair of the smallest certified weight plates (0.25kg) over the previous record.
Chalk and Other Enhancements: Chalk, baby powder and ammonia caps may be used but lifters must clean up after themselves within 60 seconds of completing their lift. Nothing may be applied to the equipment, only to the lifter.
Behavior: All Raw Powerlifting supports family participation at meets and will not tolerate any aggressive behavior. Please make sure to be appropriate towards other competitors when competing!
Personal Music: Earphones are allowed to be worn during all lifts. Hand signals as well as verbal commands will be given in order for lifters to have their personal motivating music choices with them in competition!
These rules are intended to be the most lifter friendly rules anywhere. It is all about setting the condition for your personal best!
Powerlifting consists of Squat, Bench and Deadlift for Total. Strict Curl only, Free Curl only, Military Press only, Squat only, Bench only, and Deadlift only will be kept as Individual Powerlifting Records.
SQUAT: the squat will begin with a “squat” command and visual hand signal upon the nod of the lifter who is ready to squat. Once the “squat” command is given, the lifter must lower the body so that the top surface of the leg at the hip joint is lower than the center of the knee joint. Then stand up and lock your knees. That is it! Lifters will not be disqualified for movement of the bar or feet. Squat deep and then stand up! Lifters must wait for the “rack it” command to be given.
BENCH PRESS: the bench press will begin with a “start” command when the lifter’s arms are in the locked position. Once the bar is motionless on the chest, a “press” command will be given. Once the arms are locked out, the judge will give “rack” command. Lifters will not be disqualified for any head or feet movement. If your butt comes off the bench you will be disqualified. Other than that, just lift the bar!
DEADLIFT: The deadlift will begin without a command. The lifter must pick up the bar without hitching and wait for the “down” command. Hitching is support from downward motion of the bar before lockout. The “down” command will be given verbally and visually when the lifter’s knees are locked. Lifters must stay with the deadlift until it is back on the ground. Dropping the bar will lead to disqualification. Panty liners are encouraged for those that pee a little during their deadlift.
STRENGTH LIFTING: consists of Military Press, Strict Curl and Free Standing Curl. All lifts will be kept as individual strength lifting records.
MILITARY PRESS: The military press will begin when the lifter's knees are locked and with a “press” command and visual hand signal when the bar is taken from a squat rack or a Power-Clean and at the lifter’s shoulders. The knees must remain locked throughout the lift. After the bar is pressed overhead and elbows locked out a “down” command and visual hand signal will be given. This is “Strict Military Press” with your lower body in a locked position throughout the lift.
STRICT CURL: The strict curl will begin with a “curl” command and visual hand signal when the lifter stands with their backside and shoulders against a wall or post. Knees must remain locked throughout this lift. After the bar is curled to the top, the “down” command and visual hand signal will be given. There is no “rack” command. Lift the bar with your backside and shoulders on the wall or post with your knees locked and the lift is yours!
FREE STANDING CURL: The free standing curl will begin with a “curl” command and visual hand signal when the lifter’s arms are down with the bar in their hands. After the bar is curled to the top, the “down” command and visual hand signal will be given. There is no “rack” command. That is it! This is a heave-ho type curl for maximum weight.
